In 1994, M·A·C Cosmetics make a bold move by launching its Viva Glam lipstick. With a strong customer base of movie stars and cabaret singers and sultry transvestite spokesperson RuPaul, the company decided by a unanimous employee vote that every single penny of the lipstick’s sale price would be funneled into a foundation for fighting HIV/AIDS. Thirteen years, new spokeswomen Eve and Dita Von Teese, and seven colour shades later, M·A·C has donated over $95 million to raise the health and spirits of those who suffer from the disease.
In contrast to other CSR campaigns, 100% of the proceeds of the M·A·C Viva Glam lipsticks go to their foundation. They are transparent about their donations, accountable to the North American and Global AIDS communities, and sustain an on-going committment to the cause.
